Summary:

  • Perform moderate and high complexity laboratory testing.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Process whole blood into packed red cells prepared for ultra cold freezing.

  • Review, record and track Anti-D donor information.

  • Prepare aliquot vials of red blood cells for Anti-D donor injections.

  • Prepare, correlate and ship specimen samples to company and vendor laboratories.

  • Prepare reports for special donor collection programs and present comprehensive analysis of collected data.

  • Maintain required supplies and equipment for laboratory.

  • Process plasma donors, as needed.

  • Aid in the recruitment of new specialty donors

  • Correlate donors’ schedules with cell availability and Center Medical Director schedule

  • Participate in donor selection for specialty programs

  • Provide oversight of Red cell usage at select Grifols Plasma Centers

  • Coordinate acceptable test pools/ shipments of specialty plasma between the participating centers and the customer

  • Process Whole Blood into Frozen RBC

  • Prepare Frozen RBC into aliquots for Anti D donor immunizations

  • Monitor specialty donor program participation through analysis of collected data

  • Prepare, correlate and ship specimen samples to company and vendor laboratories.

  • Ensure and Maintain Regulatory and Corporate compliance

  • Remain current on all program specific requirements

  • Current and Accurate knowledge of FDA,CLIA,QPP, cGMP state and local regulatory requirements

  • Works with the center management team to meet the short and long term operational objectives.

  • Required testing for program acceptance

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Biology or related field. Equivalency: Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements. Example: If a job level typically requires an Associate's degree plus 2 years of experience, an equivalent could include 4 years of experience or a Bachelor's degree.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform general clinical laboratory testing.

  • Knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).

Experience:

  • Experience working in a clinical laboratory or blood bank preferred.

Work is performed in a plasma center. Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. Exposure to electrical office and laboratory equipment. Exposure to extreme cold below 32 degrees F while working in plasma freezer. Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments, gloves and cold-gear. Work is performed sitting or standing for entire shift, bending and twisting neck and waist for 1-2 hours per day. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Ability to make precise coordinated movements, of the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects. Frequent foot movement; may infrequently squat, crouch or sit on one's heels. Light lifting of 15lbs with a maximum lift of 50lbs. May reach below shoulder height. Hearing acuity essential. Color perception/discrimination, near vision and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and to 20/100 in the other eye. Able to comprehend and follow instructions to complete assigned tasks. Must possess the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Must perform within the guidance of both oral or written instructions. Performs a wide range of complex tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to their occurrence. Relates sensitive information to diverse groups.
