The Construction Engineer / Project Engineer / Project Manager will be responsible for the oversight of construction projects for an industry leading biological therapeutic product manufacturer, Grifols as a member of the Grifols Engineering Team. The position will be stationed in Cayton, NC. Projects will include construction of large buildings that will house process equipment, utilities and HVAC systems, electrical, automation systems and renovations involving facilities and equipment. Candidate must be willing to adjust working hours to meet the needs of the project(s), including some weekend work when required to match the schedule of project crafts. Some travel will be required.

Candidate should possess the following:

  • Biotech, pharmaceutical or other regulated industry experience favorable, but not required

  • Experience interacting with municipalities that have local jurisdiction favorable but not required

  • Experience with pharmaceutical utilities and manufacturing processes favorable but not required

  • Candidate must have good communication skills, good interpersonal skills, leadership skills and be a strong team contributor

  • Candidate must be a self-starter and independent study

  • Candidate must have strong problem solving skills and meticulous attention to details

Role responsibilities to include, but not limited to:

  • Manage construction projects which includes construction of large buildings that will house plasma product manufacturing equipment, utilities, HVAC, electrical, automation systems and renovations involving facilities, equipment and infrastructures

  • Responsibilities includes assembling facility design package (FDP) or project charter by working with multidisciplinary team

  • Incorporate IT, Environmental and process safety and Process Controls methodology in FDP

  • Assist with management of projects from concept to hand-over, to include budgeting, estimating, forecasting, schedule tracking and status updates

  • Develop and evaluate bid packages for large procurement items, i.e, involves multimillion dollar contract

  • contract management including shell and core and interior construction, manage completion of the project including receiving COO of the building

  • Develop Civil structural Architectural (CSA) concept and construction/logistics methodology as part of the conceptual design

  • Liaison between local/state/Federal authorities and Grifols for all construction projects including guiding permitting and inspection processes by authorities

  • Help other PMs for construction related items, i.e., cost estimates, risk identification, execution strategies

  • Work with multidisciplinary team including A&E companies, contractors and supplier, local authorities

  • Effectively read, verify and redline field drawings such as CSA plans, electrical schematics, P&IDs, and piping plans

  • Work with internal customers to obtain permission to proceed and hand-over area / system after completion of work

  • Field supervision of contractors to ensure the following: safety of personnel and property, quality & efficiency, security & environmental policies are followed, confirmation of construction schedule

  • Track progress of construction per design, anticipate and resolve field issues to avoid rework

  • Start-up equipment and systems

  • Provide input to future projects as to the practicality of budget, schedule and project plans

Specific skills include:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Proficiency with MS Project or other scheduling software

  • AutoCAD and/ or Revit experience is a plus

Requirements:

Senior/Staff Engineer

Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.

Professional registration and/or certifications as appropriate.

Minimum 5 years of related experience. Experience in Biotech, Pharmaceutical or Chemical Industry preferred.

Principal Engineer

Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.

Professional registration and/or certifications as appropriate.

Minimum 8 years of experience. Experience in Biotech, Pharmaceutical or Chemical Industry preferred.

Engineering Manager

Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.

Professional registration and/or certifications as appropriate.

Minimum of 10 years of experience. GMP experience preferred. Industrial construction or large scale commercial GC experience is preferred.

Travel up to 20%.

Work is performed in an office and a laboratory/manufacturing environment. Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. Exposed to occasional extreme cold below 32

  • in production areas. Exposure to electrical office and laboratory equipment. Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments and gloves. Frequently sits for 4-6 hours per day. Stands for 2-4 hours per day. Frequent movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Ability to make precise coordinated movements, of the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects. Occasionally walks. Occasionally bends and twists neck and waist. Frequent foot movements. Color perception/discrimination, depth perception and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and to 20/100 in the other eye. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 50lbs. Able to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken and written words and sentences. Frequently performs routine tasks by following a set of written or oral instructions/procedures.
