The Engineering Manager is responsible to lead the engineering group as a key participant in designing & executing utility projects primarily at the Clayton, NC site of Grifols Therapeutics. This includes HVAC, refrigeration, compressed gasses, steam & condensate, utility distribution & piping as well as clean GMP utilities used in pharmaceutical processing such as clean steam, purified water, water for injection and clean gas distribution (air, nitrogen). In addition to managing the group, the positon frequently interacts with the site manufacturing departments to support critical ongoing operations.

  • Must have held a supervisor position managing direct reports.

  • Extensive technical experience related to utility systems is a requirement, preferably including clean pharmaceutical utilities.

  • Must have experience in executing capital projects, especially in construction:

  • Design experience to cover development of user requirements, cost estimates, P&IDs and equipment specifications and bid packages.

  • Performs vendor & bid evaluations, progress monitoring and attendance of factory acceptance testing.

  • Responsible to field supervise contractors during construction to ensure safety, quality and schedule.

  • Performs equipment start-up, develops and executes commissioning protocols and prepares turnover packages for the site.

  • For direct systems assists in IOQ execution of validation protocols.

  • Team player with experience working on large capital projects

  • Provides effective leadership to employees in manufacturing and engineering operations to develop a culture of high performance. Demonstrates high levels of value and integrity. Instills company visions, values and beliefs in others by example. Actively pursues and manages process optimization, project management and technology. Coaches, counsels, manages and directs personnel in appropriate division/business unit assignments relative to changing priorities, sense of urgency and utilization of multiple skill sets.

  • Project experience to include budgeting, forecasting and schedule management.

  • Excellent communication skills required

  • Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field of study, advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years comprehensive experience in a medium sized organization. Biotech or Chemical industry favorable.

  • PE license in NC is a strong preference

Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment. Frequently sits for 6-8 hours per day. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Occasionally walks. Occasionally bends and twists neck. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 25lbs. Frequently drives to site locations with occasional travel within the United States. Able to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Works independently with little guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals. Frequently interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups. Must work with diverse groups to obtain consensus on issues. Ability to apply abstract principles to solve complex conceptual issues.
