Senior Buyer

The Senior Buyer works with various departments supporting indirect procurement. The Senior Buyer will identify and recommend suppliers, negotiate business terms, support the contract management process and monitor supplier performance.

Primary responsibilities for role:

  • Preparation of RFIs (Request for Information), RFPs (Request for Proposal) and Contracts, coupled with skilled negotiation techniques to produce cost savings results

  • Manage key critical supplier relationships, including selection and supply agreements, and issue resolution.

  • Work proactively to grow and foster both internal and external customer relationships and ensure policies and procedures are followed.

  • Conduct business reviews with critical suppliers.

  • Identifying the need for, and following through on communications with both internal and external customers.

  • Review and analyze price quotations and purchase requisitions. Prepare purchase orders and contracts in a timely fashion.

  • Identify, recommend and present opportunities for process improvements that prove to reduce spend and possible work load without impacting other areas.

  • Track cost savings and cost avoidance initiatives.Evaluate and set up new suppliers.

  • Lead and support sourcing initiatives.

  • Adhere with company policies and procedures.

Additional Responsibilities:

Work closely with Engineering, facilitate pre-bid meetings, perform bid analysis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of Maintenance, Repair and Operation, general contract management understanding. Knowledge of SRM, SAP, and MS Office products. Ability to make independent decisions, effectively negotiate costs and business terms and manage supplier relationships.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree desirable.

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years purchasing experience with knowledge of sourcing indirect spend categories (i.e. IT/IS, Finance, Commercial Operations) including capital. Experience with SAP and certifications in CPM, CPSM strongly preferred.

Equivalency: Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements. Example: If a job level requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of experience, an equivalency could include 8 years of experience, an Associate’s degree with 6 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 2 years of experience.
