The PBS Instrumentation & Systems Specialist primarily manages the repair depot for Plasma Bottle Sampling (PBS) instruments used by Grifols Plasma Collection facilities. They also manage processes for inventory, calibration and distribution of service tools for Field Service Engineers, in addition to providing support for the GST Training facility in Emeryville, CA.

Primary responsibilities for role:

  • Compliance - Adhering to procedures and protocols outlined by the Grifols DxCTS organization and Grifols Diagnostic Solutions.

  • Repair Depot Management- Maintaining a repair depot for PBS instruments in collaboration with Grifols colleagues in North Carolina and Barcelona. This includes:

o Organizing inbound/outbound shipments

o Performing troubleshooting, upgrade and repair of PBS instruments

o Maintaining minimum inventory levels of PBS instruments of available in the depot at all times, per contractual obligations

  • FSE Tool Management - Provide support including but not limited to:

o Maintaining organized records of NAT/IH calibrated meters

o Coordinating calibration of these tools by Grifols Metrology and/or a third party

o Organizing inbound/outbound shipment of tools from/to FSEs

o Coordinating the assembly and stocking levels of Field Service Engineer tool kits in RTP, NC

  • DxCTS Training Facility Support - Provide support including but not limited to:

o Stocking/ordering/receiving parts and supplies

o Receiving/uncrating/shipping incoming instrumentation from tradeshows or for recertification

o Performing maintenance, relocation, troubleshooting and repair activities for instrumentation, including documentation of activities within CRM system as applicable.

o Ensuring training facilities are clean and organized

o Participating in pre-inspection/audit support activities

Key Performance Indicators / Measures for Success

  • Internal Training and corporate training will be completed on time 98% of the time

  • Maintaining minimum inventory and on-time distribution of service tools - 100% of time

  • On time completion of repairs for PBS instruments - minimum inventory level of available instruments maintained 100% of the time

  • Documentation of training or service activity within 24 hours of occurrence in CRM; activities resolved and within 3 days of completion of work; records closed within 7 days of completion of work.

Additional Responsibilities:

Additional Responsibilities include but are not limited to: May perform other duties as assigned by the Manager. Procedure creation/ modification. Identify and make recommendations for improvements to products, functions and processes. Regular maintenance, troubleshooting & upgrades of other equipment in RTP, NC.

  • Demonstrated expertise in supporting and servicing highly complex instrumentation.

  • Excellent organizational, record keeping and inventory skills required.

  • Knowledge of GMP, ISO and other certifying agency policies and regulations.

  • Proficient with Microsoft applications and familiar with computerized call handling systems.

  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.

  • Self-motivated and self-directed with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to communicate technical information effectively.

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science or related technical scientific discipline, Equivalent Military education or Associates Degree with 2 years experience or High School Diploma/GED with 4+ years experience servicing electronic/electro-mechanical equipment.


Career: A minimum of 3 years experience service of electronics equipment and/or Medical instrumentation required. Otherwise, please see Education requirements for additional experience required.


Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of stated requirements. Example: If a job level typically requires an Associate’s degree plus 2 years’ experience, an equivalent could include 4 years of experience or a Bachelor’s degree.

Occupational Demands:

Position will be based in RTP, NC. Work hours conform to a standard 40 hour work week; candidate must be accessible for contact by phone. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as an essential function of the role (lifting of equipment for installation and preventative maintenance.)
