Responsible for developing and managing space request solutions in an office, lab, and manufacturing environment. Additionally responsible for implementation of small/light projects as required within the Grifols Diagnostics Facilities Management Department. This includes the management of external suppliers, internal functions and company resources (assets, finances). Liaison with customer group(s) to ensure facilities planning, project/moves execution and operations activities align with needs.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Manages space requests in an office, lab, and manufacturing environment. The space planner will be internal client-facing and will work autonomously to identify, coordinate, plan space and programming services on multiple projects.

  • Coordinates with different support departments, facility space and personnel move requests while developing and implementing solutions.

  • Understands and is able to execute move coordination (equipment and people) as well as vendor management.

  • Ability to maintain Inventory management

  • Executes coordination of seismic bracing

  • Coordinates space tracking and updates maps

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with various internal lines of business to understand their requirements and the impacts to the campus master plan.

  • Leads meetings to report on occupancy issues, challenges, opportunities and potential solutions.

  • Leads small/light projects, providing direction to lower-level Associates and/or consultants as needed.

  • Guides tactical implementation of customer requested facilities changes

  • Oversees and coordinates all aspects of simultaneous, ongoing light construction projects including;

  • Feasibility study

  • Scope definition/user requirements

  • Funding request preparation and presentation

  • Detailed design/engineering

  • Consultant/vendor management

  • Cost/Schedule monitoring and forecasting

  • Construction oversight

  • Project close-out and turnover to operations/user groups

  • Cross-functional support group coordination and program input

  • Subject matter expert in the area of interiors and furniture specifications

  • Any other activities as directed by the Manager, Facility Project Management or Director, Facilities Management

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Customers report routine delivery of services in line with agreed to commitments.

  • Project and/or program delivery within approved budgets

  • Project and/or program delivery within agreed timelines


Associates degree required, BS in Architecture or Engineering preferred, or related field


  • Minimum 7 years related industry experience required.

  • 5+ years experience in research related pharmaceutical/biotech operations

  • 5+ years experience in an owner’s representative role, with minimum 3 years involving space planning analysis and move coordination.

  • Advanced knowledge of project management concepts and practices

  • Experience with Building codes (IBC, ADA, NFPA) including interpretation and design guidance

  • PMP certification preferred

Other Dimensions:

  • Negotiating and listening skills, with proficiency in change management and conflict resolution skills.

  • Works both independently and as part of multi-functional teams.

  • Strong organizational planning, and understanding of project management concepts

  • Technical experience in biotech / research unit operations

  • General understanding of utility drawings (mechanical, plumbing/piping, electrical, architectural)

  • Familiarity with current industry technology and trends

  • Ability to handle multiple projects at one time

  • Excellent interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills (written and oral).

  • Proficient in MS Word, Project, Powerpoint, and Excel

  • Understanding of AutoCAD, and ability to utilize Revit

  • This position will be based in Emeryville, CA.
