POSITION SUMMARY

Refrigeration Mechanic will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Mechanic will improve, repair, rebuild and do preventive and/or corrective maintenance work on all HVAC / Refrigeration equipment, along with all plant auxiliary systems connected to HVAC / Refrigeration systems.

  2. Perform highly skilled tasks including but not limited to pipe fitting, welding, tear down and inspection of compressors, along with rebuilding pumps, valves, and blowers.

  3. Make repairs to systems such as, changing motors, replacing bearings, belts, filters and charge refrigeration systems.

  4. Troubleshoot electrical control circuits.

  5. Ensure that equipment is repaired and maintained in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and/or manufacturer’s specification.

  6. Performs both scheduled and unplanned work on a wide variety of equipment and systems, including Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Corrective Maintenance work.

  7. Identify and report low performing or failing systems for pre-emptive corrective actions or upgrade suggestions.

  8. Supports implementation of upgrades and new engineering / maintenance projects.

  9. Takes the necessary actions to ensure equipment and/or environment is safe and consistent with relevant laws, codes and/or governing policies.

  10. Identify needed equipment, parts, and supplies necessary to complete repairs.

  11. Responsible for coordinating with manufacturing departments to perform work in a timely manner.

  12. May conduct root cause analyses.

  13. Strict adherence to procedures and practices according to FDA regulations.

  14. Strong emphasis on documentation according to FDA regulations.

  15. Adhere to departmental corporate safety policies.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS & EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School diploma or GED required. Trade School, Vocational Certificate, Associates Degree, or Military training in related field is highly preferred.

  2. Minimum of 2 years related industrial or commercial experience in maintenance of HVAC / Refrigeration equipment, preferably in a pharmaceutical, GMP, or FDA regulated environment.

  3. Equivalency: In lieu of 2 years of experience, candidate must have a minimum of an Associates Degree or Vocational Certification in HVAC / Refrigeration, or closely related technical discipline.

  4. Must be EPA Universal Certified and be able to provide copy of certification card.

  5. Requires a basic understanding in low and medium temperature Refrigeration & Air Conditioning applications, and repair/ maintenance of HVAC / Refrigeration systems.

  6. Must have experience in soldering or brazing pipe/tubing fittings.

  7. Possess full knowledge of the use of tools and equipment used in the HVAC / Refrigeration field.

  8. Able to repair and rebuild machinery or mechanical equipment.

  9. Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems is a plus.

  10. Must have strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve equipment problems.

  11. Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude.

  12. Able to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) drawings and schematics.

  13. Knowledge of safe and proper use of hand, power and measuring tools, as well as basic shop equipment.

  14. Ability to read and interpret equipment performance data.

  15. Must be proactive, results oriented, and have strong attention to detail.

  16. Self-starter with strong work ethic and the ability to exercise good judgment.

  17. Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet targeted deadlines.

  18. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with personnel at all levels in a team environment.

  19. Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

  20. Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  21. Specific experience with SAP & AMMS is preferred.

  22. Must be flexible with working hours / shifts in order to accommodate the 24 hour, 7 day plant operation.

  23. May also be required to be on call, on a rotating basis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to lift /move up to 50 pounds.

  2. Ability to stand for extended periods - up to four (4) hours at a time.

  3. Manual dexterity to perform all job functions.

  4. Ability to gown and work in an aseptic/clean room environment.

  5. Exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals and biological hazards.

  6. Ability to climb ladders and enter/exit confined spaces.
