This position will report through the Facilities organization and be based at the L.A. site but support Grifols construction projects in Egypt for at least two years upon hire. Fluency in Arabic and English is a plus.

The Project Engineer will design, plan, execute, start-up, commission, and document mechanical and/or architectural aspects of small to medium size capital projects. Projects may be new construction and/or improvements to existing facilities (i.e. offices, warehouse, data rooms, temperature-controlled storage areas, general manufacturing areas, and industrial facility systems (i.e. Refrigeration, HVAC, Compress Air, Water systems, Electrical, etc.). The Project Engineer with minimal management will bring capital projects to completion.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a basic design and may lead the efforts of installation of different industrial facility systems related to the architectural and mechanical aspects of the projects.

  • Prepare Scope of Work and bid documents for systems fabrication and installation.

  • Propose designs and implement upgrade projects for existing industrial facilities.

  • During executing construction projects, follow the established Grifols procedures for engineering documentation.

  • Represent Grifols Global Facilities group during project execution meetings with both internal and external clients.

  • Develop and confirm technical viability of a project in cooperation with multi-functional teams to enable a smooth implementation at manufacturing while fulfilling regulatory, quality and marketplace requirements.

  • Formulate project objectives, approaches, schedules, risk assessments, budgetary constraints and manpower requirements in accordance with customer needs.

  • Serve as a member of cross-functional project teams as it relates to the execution of projects and meeting deliverables (i.e. objectives, deadlines, budgeted cost, etc.).

  • Interface directly with customers and suppliers in resolution of specific application problems.

  • Monitor execution of both outside design and construction work to identify performance issues with regards to quality of work, schedule, and cost.

  • Sought for counsel within field of expertise for all/some of the following areas of Engineering: Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical and Process, depending on the department. Assigned to one or more areas of Engineering within the company: Project, Plant & Reliability or Utilities.

  • Makes independent decisions within defined areas of responsibility.

  • Develops technical engineering standards. Resolves conflicts within areas of responsibility.

  • Assists in the effective deployment of divisional or departmental technical resources in pursuit of annual goals.

  • Serves as a consultant to management within specified area/discipline.

  • Advances technical project proposals to senior management following through to successful completion. Chairs inter/intra-departmental teams.

  • Interacts frequently with senior technical peers. Sets levels of standard technical performance for others. Utilizes flexible leadership skills.

  • Influences commitment of resources at division/department level. Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal, technical writing and communication skills. Strong technical and problem-solving skills in a manufacturing environment. Designs and operates manufacturing technology for the organization. Supervises quality control and oversees the fulfillment of FDA regulations.

  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles in all or some of the following areas; Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical and Process. Excellent project management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas in clear and simple terms. Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze and identify areas for improvement. Interacts outside the technical area with Administration & Human Resources Departments and counterparts in the organization. Requirements:

Staff Engineer

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Constuction Management.

Professional registration and/or certifications as appropriate.

Minimum 7 years of related experience. Experience in Biotech, Pharmaceutical or Chemical Industry preferred.

Principal Engineer

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction Management.

Professional registration and/or certifications as appropriate.

Minimum 8 years of related experience. Experience in Biotech, Pharmaceutical or Chemical Industry preferred.

Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment. Frequently sits for 6-8 hours per day. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Occasionally walks and stands. Occasionally bends and twists neck. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 25lbs. Frequently drives to site locations with occasional travel within the United States. Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken and written words and sentences. Interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups. Must work with diverse groups to obtain consensus on issues.
