Interstate Blood Bank Center Manager - Memphis, TN (Mendenhall) in Memphis, Tennessee

JOB TITLE: Center Manager


This position is responsible for the management, personnel, production, compliance, equipment, maintenance, supply inventory administration, organization, and control of an automated Source Plasma Center.



  1. Oversees and manages all aspects of the center, including, but not limited to, employees, donor relationships, production activities, compliance activities, and financial activities.

  2. Responsible for all products and samples leaving the facility. Verifies unacceptable units and samples have been removed and are placed into quarantine storage prior to shipment.

  3. Responsible for all products and samples leaving the facility. Verifies unacceptable units and samples are pulled at the time of boxing and sets aside for QAC review.

  4. Verifies product shipments for release, including the removal of any units initially packed for shipment that becomes unsuitable for the customer.

  5. Generates Lookbacks, including removing any units from product inventories and placing into locked quarantine storage.

  6. Selects, develops, and motivates a competent staff to achieve the center’s objectives. Performs individual training for direct reports.

  7. Must maintain certifications and be able to perform all production job descriptions, as needed.

  8. Performs all job duties in a safe manner and uses required personal protective equipment.

  9. Is responsible for training and enforcing company policies with all center employees.

  10. Is responsible for enforcing all safety procedures and managing the center with the donors’ and employees’ safety as the first priority.

  11. Maintains IBBI Corporate procedures (electronically or manually) so that SOPs are available for employee use.

  12. Maintains files of customer specifications and procedures.

  13. Oversees the center’s compliance with IBBI Corporate procedures, customer procedures, government regulations (FDA, OSHA, etc.), and industry practices.

  14. Manages Human Resources aspects of the centers, including, but not limited to the following:

  15. Monitors the performance of employees

  16. Conducts employee evaluations

  17. Maintains employee personnel files and separate medical files

  18. Issues disciplinary action

  19. Handles terminations in collaboration with Human Resources.

  20. Monitors for the correct completion and filing of records; maintains proper collection and storage of record archives.

  21. Maintains donor flow and monitors manufacture of product.

  22. Collects information and generates reports using eProgesa; takes all appropriate actions. Reports may include but are not limited to: yield, donor numbers, work efficiencies, customer service and donor recruitment, unit destruction, shipment reports, etc.

  23. Reconciles all payments made to donors for donations. Resolves any issues with donors and/or

  24. payment/accounting function.

  25. Manages biohazardous waste.

  26. Interacts internally with center IBBI personnel and with donors.

  27. Follows all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Company policies.


  • Facilitates the training of all employees on company policies and their job responsibilities.

  • Emphasizes the importance of safety training and working safely; routinely monitors employees and assesses work practices are performed safely.

  • Recruits donors by promoting the center’s operations within the community; plans and implements special incentive programs to recruit and retain donors.

  • Reviews for accuracy and approves employee time cards for hours worked, vacation, holidays, and leaves of absence.

  • Ensures new hires are enrolled in benefits in a timely manner.

  • Conducts employee investigations as directed by Human Resources.

  • Scans and emails original garnishments to Human Resources upon receipt.

  • Responds to unemployment claim inquiries and attends hearings as needed.

  • Responsible for all outside vendors used in the facility, including, but not limited to, pest control, rugs/mats, alarm company, and janitorial services. Uses only approved vendors; submits potential new vendors to Corporate for approval.

  • Orders and maintains all equipment and supplies used at the facility, including, but not limited to, equipment used in the donation process, storage of product, etc.

  • Performs all Job Descriptions as required/assigned.

  • Interacts with donors, vendors, job applicants, competitive centers, and auditors.

  • Interacts with other Interstate Centers and with Corporate personnel.

  • Initiates Document Change Requests and Variance Requests, when appropriate.

  • Performs other duties as required/assigned.


  • Hosts internal and external audits and inspections. Accompanies auditors/inspectors, provides appropriate requested material and prepares a visitor report and written audit response if required.

  • Certifies employees by monitoring their work to verify practices are correctly and consistently performed and reviews / assists with employee audits and assessments as part of the employee evaluation.

  • Develops and implements corrective and/or preventive action based on audit observations.


  • High school diploma or equivalent, required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work-related experience and/or training

  • Two (2) years supervisory experience as an Assistant Center Manager is preferred

  • Experience working with the community/public

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Must have above average problem solving and decision-making abilities

  • Must be self-directed and highly-motivated

  • Explicit attention to detail is required

  • Must have excellent analytical skills, organizational skills and follow-up

  • Ability to effectively manage staff and maintain positive relationships with all levels of employees

  • Experience in an FDA-regulated industry, preferred

  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, Safe Operating Procedures, SDS and Biohazardous Waste

  • Quality Assurance background is a plus

  • Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within Interstate Blood Bank, Inc. and provide excellent customer service

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to analyze situations and respond in a timely manner

  • Ability to participate in multi-functional teams

  • Proficiency with computers
