Grifols Shared Services North America, Inc HVAC Technician 2 in San Diego, California



Responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining and reporting HVAC, refrigeration, compressed air and vacuum systems operations to ensure cGMP compliance. Assist management in the supervision of all activities concerned with the general operations and maintenance of the building. Provide leadership to the Facilities staff. Provide direction to on site 3rd party vendors.

Primary responsibilities for role:

  • Maintain and repair or coordinate vendors to maintain and repair non-production MEP support services including HVAC, refrigeration, compressed air and vacuum systems.

  • Coordinate and plan scheduled maintenance procedures and properly notify affected Department Managers in regards to anticipated disruptions.

  • Manage the tasks execution and documentation processes of the Maximo CMMS (computerized maintenance management system).

  • Manage the alarms, adjustments and notifications of the Building Management System (BMS). Advise affected Staff of issues.

  • Assist with HEPA filtration testing and calibration readings in partnership with Metrology within the clean room spaces.

  • Maintain recordkeeping for all SOP's and related Facilities Change Control documentation.

  • Complete training requirements as defined in a training plan.

  • Complete training requirements as defined in a training plan.

  • Perform continuous personal and department personnel development to improve maintenance, communications and supervisory skills.

  • Interface and communicate at a high level with staff and guests to ensure a superior level of customer service.

Additional Responsibilities:

Ability to read plans and blueprints for as-built design and construction projects. May be assigned to carry a primary phone, providing 24/7 site alarm coverage on a periodic rotational basis. May be required to provide support for GMP mechanical/facility repairs and maintenance. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office based programs (Word, Excel, Project). Knowledge of federal, state and local code requirements. Promote safe work environments and practices and work in a safe manner at all times.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to work with hand and power tools. Understanding of the operations of testing equipment including electrical and temperature meters and refrigeration specific tools. General knowledge of pharmaceutical, life sciences and clean room environments. Self starter with strong troubleshooting abilities.


Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 4-6 years of related experience or AA and 2-4 years related experience or BS and 0-2 years related experience. Technical or trade school certifications related to the HVAC and Building Management fields may be considered.


Typically requires 6 years of related experience in the Building and Facility Management fields specific to the Life Sciences industry with a minimum of 3 years of direct troubleshooting of industrial mechanical and electrical systems.


Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements. Example: If a job level typically requires an Associate’s degree plus 2 years of experience, an equivalent could include 4 years of experience or a Bachelor's degree.

Occupational Demands:

May occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise manipulate up to 55 pounds in weigh, and/or lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise manipulate objects up to 25 pounds in weight frequently or continuously. May move objects and/or materials using carts, lift trucks or pallet jacks. Must have the ability to climb ladders, both portable and roof access types. Must have adequate trade licenses and/or certifications including the EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification. Must have excellent communication skills both oral and written in English. May be required to work overtime and off-shifts, including weekends and holidays.
