Summary:

Leads Immunoassay development projects. This includes development and verification of immunoassay as a leader of a small team. Design of testing strategies and pre-validation for development of design files. This may include in some cases development, execution and interpretation of scientific research projects pertaining to ELISA, or other proprietary immunoassay platforms and the subsequent testing with clinical samples for infectious disease or other.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides updates to senior management on status of experiments and studies.

  • Leads collaboration with internal scientific clients and in teams externally.

  • Leads, designs and carries out immunoassay design and refinement experiments. Independently or with team members, plans research projects requiring initiative and judgment within defined procedures and practices.

  • Independently selects methodological approaches and specific methods to achieve research objectives.

  • Exercises judgment and initiative in making research project decisions. Performs experiments in the laboratory, as needed.

  • Experienced professional in the identification, analysis, troubleshooting and interpretation of project results. Communicates results to key stakeholders and management whether internal or external.

  • In collaboration with other scientists, writes original reports on research projects. Remains current on pertinent scientific topics on feasibility studies.

  • Attends and participates in National and International scientific meetings, seminars and leadership team meetings.

  • Presents research results to colleagues at scientific meetings.

  • Presents research results to colleagues at scientific meetings, publishes scientific manuscripts and has track record of creating IP.

  • Assists in tech transfer to downstream.

  • Helps prepare and defends patent disclosures and applications.

  • Interacts and/or leads collaboration with external collaborators and/or CROs.

  • Partners and collaborates with small teams in a scientific development environment.

Education:

PhD. degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biology or other life science field.

Experience:

  • More than 10 years laboratory experience post Ph.D. with immunoassay research, in vitro diagnostics ( industrial experience preferred).

  • IVD experience, experience with assay design and development that resulted in CE mark and FDA approved tests.

  • Subject matter expert in immunoassay setup, and analysis of specificity, sensitivity, and robustness.

  • Experience in demonstrating and supervising laboratory training with interns, graduate students, technical staff or post-doctoral students.

  • Working knowledge of immunoassay design for screening or clinical tests.

  • Knowledge of bead conjugation technologies a bonus.

  • Experience in bead or plate based assay platforms a plus.

  • Ability to become familiar with relevant scientific literature and represent the research team and deliver concise scientific presentations.

  • Comfortable with handling biohazardous and infectious samples.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of GenBank searching: BLAST, sequence alignment and analysis, tree building using Cluster and TreeView
